LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Even though there are no immediate plans for a Squirrel Girl movie, two actresses have expressed interest in playing the "unbeatable" superhero.

Anna Kendrick of Pitch Perfect fame, and newcomer Shannon Purser, who played breakout star Barb on Netflix's hit Stranger Things, have both spoken out about wanting to play the Marvel heroine if the opportunity arises.

"I think Squirrel Girl is just adorable but at the same time is totally boss and completely awesome," Purser said . "I think people need a character like that."

Purser is also holding out hope that she'll be able to play Eleanor when DreamWorks eventually produces the film adaptation of Rainbow Rowell's novel "Eleanor & Park." DreamWorks bought the rights to the movie in 2014 but have yet to make any casting decisions.

"I have rarely been as sure about anything as I am that I was meant to play Eleanor," Purser said.

Kendrick has also recently said that she'd love a chance to defeat bad guys in the Marvel universe, and director Edgar Wright, who directed Kendrick in 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, is supportive of Kendrick's aspiration.
