HOLLYWOOD, June 8 (UPI) -- Melissa McCarthy, whose career launched with Gilmore Girls, said she's had a blast going back to her roots as part of a four-part movie set for Netflix.

McCarthy strapped on a bandana and again took on the role of Sookie St. James. The Ghostbusters star joked that performing in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life "was a blood bath," E! reported.

"No, it was so fun. I get so sentimental to be back on those sets and to see everybody. It was amazing how we just all fell back into it." McCarthy said.

The star, who was at Elle's Women in Comedy event with her Ghostbusters pals, said she believes the four 90-minute movies will be great. "I had such a good time going back."

Her return to the series that launched her successful career came after weeks of back and forth with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who said McCarthy was too busy.

McCarthy replied that she was not asked to return. She said she thinks they didn't ask her because they thought she was too busy.

"I'm actually thrilled that it's happening," McCarthy said. "I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them. I want to cook again. I want to put salt and then stir," she joked. "That was seven years of my life and it was really great. I was proud of that show."

Others coming back for the limited series reunion include Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki, and Matt Czuchry, Deadline.com reported.

Netflix has not yet set a premiere date for the series.
