The Brooklyn Brawler reportedly released by WWE

STAMFORD, Conn., May 11 (UPI) -- The Brooklyn Brawler, real name Steve Lombardi has reportedly been released by WWE after more then 30 years with the company.

According to Pro Wrestling Insider, The Brooklyn Brawler, real name Steve Lombardi, was let go along with the eight other Superstars that were released recently including Damien Sandow, King Barrett, Santino Marella, Cameron, Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, El Torito and manager Zeb Colter.

Lombardi was no longer an active member of the roster, but has made sporadic in-ring appearances throughout the years as he worked behind the scenes at WWE.

WWE has yet to comment on the matter however, Cynthia Heenan, the wife of WWE Hall of Famer Bobby "The Brain" Heenan who once managed Lombardi, confirmed his exit on Twitter. "Steve Lombardi (@brawlerreal) has been released by @WWE he was managed by Bobby," she wrote alongside a photo of The Brooklyn Brawler and Heenan standing in a ring.

On Tuesday, Lombardi sent out a pair of cryptic tweets that hinted at his release. "#Memories are something no one can ever take away from you," he wrote, followed by "Happiness is not the absence of #problems, it's the #confidence to deal with them"

Known for wearing a torn up New York Yankee's shirt and dirty jeans to the ring along with a cigar in his mouth, The Brooklyn Brawler debuted in WWE in 1989. While he never won many matches, The Brooklyn Brawler remained a fan-favorite star especially in his home state of New York.
