The Scandal actress took to Instagram Tuesday to address the image but made a point not to put down the magazine for its decision.

"I always celebrate it when a respected publication invites me to grace their pages. It's an honor. And a privilege. And ADWEEK is no exception," Washington wrote. "When they invited me to do a cover, I was excited and thrilled. And the truth is, I'm still excited."
Washington highlighted the article written from her interview in the magazine, saying she is "proud" of the way it turned out. "I have to be honest," she paused, "I was taken aback by the cover."
"Look, I'm no stranger to Photoshopping. It happens a lot. In a way, we have become a society of picture adjusters - who doesn't love a filter?!?" the actress continued. "Yesterday, however, I just felt weary. It felt strange to look at a picture of myself that is so different from what I look like when I look in the mirror. It's an unfortunate feeling."

In her interview with the outlet, the 39-year-old star discussed her individuality and the value her behind-the-scenes team has added to her success. She mentioned her upcoming production, Confirmation, of which she is producer, adding she is happy to present "opportunities for people to do what they do, to be part of the collaborative process that is filmmaking and television making."
"I enjoy not sitting at home, waiting to be invited to a party," she added. "I do have a couple of different projects in the works and a couple of different films."
