NEW YORK, April 2 (UPI) -- Comedian Jon Stewart and his wife, Tracey, picked up a bull who was lost in Queens Friday and took it to Farm Sanctuary's shelter in Watkins Glen, N.Y., to save it from the slaughterhouse.

The black and white Angus was found on the campus of York College in Jamaica, Queens, after escaping from a nearby holding area for livestock, The New York Times reported.

The bull was photographed with students, making him an instant social-media star, then lassoed by police and taken to Animal Care Centers of NYC in Brooklyn.

He was eventually picked up by the Stewarts and brought to the shelter to save it from being returned to its owner, a cattle rancher in Monticello.

The Times did not say whether the Stewarts bought the bull and, if so, how much they paid for it.
