LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Tori Spelling is facing legal trouble over her reported $38,000 credit card balance. Court documents reveal American Express sued the 42-year-old actress over the debt, and is seeking the entire balance, including interest, as soon as possible.

Spelling last attempted to make a payment June 26, but the $1,070 transaction failed. The actress' mom, author Candy Spelling, told TMZ she's been helping her daughter financially in an interview Wednesday.
"I'm paying all her bills now," Candy said. "I'm not paying extras like [the debt]. I'm not paying any back payments. Just for the house and the kids' school and the food. I don't know [why she missed payments]. Extravagance, I guess."
Spelling, who shares 8-year-old son Liam, 7-year-old daughter Stella, 4-year-old daughter Hattie and 3-year-old son Finn with husband Dean McDermott, admitted to money problems in 2013, famously telling People she and the 49-year-old actor couldn't afford a vasectomy.
"We're in the entertainment business, and things change year to year," the actress explained. "We don't have a series on the air right now, so we have to be more restrictive of what we can spend, just like anyone who doesn't currently have a steady job."
Spelling is best known for playing Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210, and has since starred on the short-lived series Mystery Girls with Jennie Garth. She and McDermott also appeared on the reality show True Tori, and reportedly have a new series in the works.
"We're going to do some stuff for the Cooking Channel," the actor said in April. "It's going to be lighthearted, nothing like True Tori. Do some cooking stuff, maybe some travel stuff, stuff with the family but lighthearted and fun."
