NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lawrence sparked the Lohan family's defenses when she joked about Lindsay Lohan's past drug and alcohol abuse.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night, Lawrence compared her occasional exhaustion with that of Lindsay Lohan during the peak of her party-girl lifestyle.

"I'm a puker," Lawrence joked. "I don't stop working because I am a show pony. I don't have a choice. So I just keep going until my body is like, 'If we don't make her barf or pass out, she won't stop.' I get like, Lindsay Lohan-grade exhaustion, but without any drugs or alcohol. I'm always in bed early. I'm still tired."

The Joy actress' quip prompted Lohan's younger sister, Ali Lohan, to take to Twitter in support of her sister. "I never breathe life into negativity but I stand by my family," she wrote. "Disappointed in Jennifer Lawrence..Not cool."

Actress Lindsay Lohan soon after responded on her own Twitter account, thanking her sister for defending her. "Maybe who you're referring to should learn to support others like #mayaangelou," she wrote alongside an image of the quote, "You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I'll rise."

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight after the quip, matriarch Dina Lohan said Lawrence's joke was "unfortunate" and "disappointing."

"You shouldn't trash anyone, it was just surprising," she said, "My family sticks together."
