WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Madonna has performed in front of over 300,000 fans in the first two months of her Rebel Heart tour and earned about $46 million in box office sales so far.

Landing the top spot on this week's Hot Tours list for Billboard, the superstar's current world tour -- still in its early stages in North America -- has hit 20 cities with Europe, Asia and Australia still in store. Madonna's first show this year took place in Montreal in September.

Madonna's highest-grossing events so far took place at New York's Madison Square Garden in mid-September, earning $5.2 million in two nights. A total 28,371 fans attended the Garden shows, Billboard reports, making them the largest of the tour so far.

Madonna's world tour and staggering box office sales have the ability to overshadow that of Taylor Swift and her ongoing 1989 tour, putting them both in the running for the title of "highest paid" next year. Forbes announced this week Katy Perry is this year's highest paid woman in the industry, making $135 million thanks to her Prismatic tour and marketing deals. Swift came in second with $80 million, while Madonna was missing from a top-five spot.

The Rebel Heart tour is Madonna's 10th world tour in her longstanding music career. Her highest grossing tour, and one of the top-grossing of all time, is the Sticky & Sweet Tour, which earned $408 million between 2008 and 2009.
