NEW YORK, April 2 (UPI) -- Katie Couric has pitched a comedy about morning news starring Michelle Pfeiffer as the anchor.

Pfeiffer, Couric and Murphy Brown creator Diane English are pitching to platforms without actual morning news shows -- HBO, Showtime, AMC, Netflix, and Amazon.

The series would show the comedic behind-the-scenes look at a morning news show. The script won't be directly ripped from Couric's experience on "Today" but will be based on real-life experiences.

English has kept a low profile since Murphy Brown and is set to be a writer, producer and showrunner on the series.

Couric is currently the global news anchor for Yahoo News. This will be Pfeiffer's first starring role in a TV series.
