LOS ANGELES, April 1 (UPI) -- Giuliana Rancic has chosen to speak out about her weight.

The 40-year-old television personality addressed body critics in an interview with People published Wednesday. Many were concerned by Rancic's thin appearance at the 2015 Golden Globes in January, with some accusing the star of having an eating disorder.

"I started noticing that I was eating a lot, but not gaining weight at all," she recalled before revealing the cause is her cancer-suppressing medication. Rancic underwent a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, and has been on the drug since 2012.

"It's really hurtful," she admitted of the criticism. "I'm sorry that some people think I'm disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there's nothing I can do. I'm lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine."

Rancic's oncologist, Dr. Dev Paul, told her the medication can alter metabolism and cause weight loss. The Fashion Police host said she eats "a very robust, healthy, balanced diet," and confessed it's hard for her to feel "fit and beautiful and sexy" because she is "really thin."

Rancic will detail her struggle with cancer and more in upcoming memoir Going Off Script. The book is published by Crown Archetype, and scheduled for release April 7. Fashion Police will remain on hiatus until September, following Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin's departure.
