NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- New dad Ryan Reynolds has finally broken his silence on the name of his and Blake Lively's daughter.

"It's James," the 38-year-old actor told Today co-host Willie Geist after joking that her name was Butternut Summer Squash.

"Everyone knows, and I told everyone who would listen before it was out there that I didn't want to be the first guy screaming it out to the media because, as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, 'Why did you do that?'" Reynolds said.

Reynolds and his wife welcomed James sometime in December after almost three years of marriage. In February, The Green Lantern star denied reports that the baby was named Violet.

"I just don't want to say it in, like, a media context," Reynolds told David Letterman in February. "I tell everyone who I meet, so it'll come out."
