NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- Singer turned fashion designer Jessica Simpson opened up about her career switch and her biggest fashion advice during a recent visit to NYC.

Simpson, 34, was celebrating her new role as the "dean" of Teen Vogue's Fashion University at an event when she spoke to People magazine about her decision to leave her music career.

"I just wanted to take a break on it. It is in my heart and in my soul, but so is putting on a really great dress," said Simpson who has released seven albums since the late '90s. "I just think we can do anything. So it's not really about moving on from one thing to the other, it is kind of intermixing it all."

The blonde beauty kicked off her career in fashion with the release of her eponymous clothing line in 2006. When asked what is the best fashion advice she could share with young fashionistas, Simpson said it was all bout the heels.

"To me, that's the deepest question," she said. "I think the best fashion advice would be, '[Even] if your feet hurt, wear the shoes.'"
