'Avatar' finally loses top box office spot
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- "Avatar" was finally knocked out of the No. 1 spot during the weekend, with "Dear John" raking in $32.4 million to top the U.S. box office.
"Avatar" was second with a healthy $23.6 million. The innovative new film had led the box office for seven straight weekends.
All estimated gross box office figures are from Box Office Mojo.
"From Paris with Love" was third with $8.12 million; "Edge of Darkness" fourth with more than $7 million; "Tooth Fairy" fifth with $6.5 million; "When in Rome" sixth with $5.5 million.
"The Book of Eli" was seventh with more than$4.83 million; "Crazy Heart" eighth with $3.65 million; "Legion (2010)" ninth with $3.4 million.
"Sherlock Holmes" was 10th with $2.63 million.
Bullock downplays her Oscar chances
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Sandra Bullock said during an appearance at a film festival in California she does not expect to win a best actress Oscar award this year.
Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Bullock downplayed her chances of topping her fellow best actress Oscar nominees thanks to her role in the football drama "The Blind Side," People.com reported Saturday.
"I'm so not winning an Oscar," Bullock said Friday.
Bullock, whose role already earned her a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award this year, added she and her fellow best actress nominees are simply happy to have been nominated.
"Someone's going to win and the rest of us will be really happy for whoever won. We're just happy to be here. And we like the company we're in," she told People magazine.
Along with Bullock, the best actress Oscar nominees are Helen Mirren for "The Last Station," Carey Mulligan for "An Education," Meryl Streep for "Julie & Julia" and Gabourey Sidibe for "Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire."
The 82nd annual Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on March 7.
Actor Shue, news anchor Robach marry
NEW YORK, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A representative for "Today" said the TV series' weekend co-anchor Amy Robach married actor Andrew Shue in New York.
The "Today" representative, whose identity was not released, told People magazine Shue, 42, and Robach, 37, married Saturday at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers with the former "Melrose Place" actor's three sons and Robach's two daughters in attendance.
"The wedding was absolutely beautiful," the representative said. "Amy and Andrew were beaming."
A number of Robach's NBC colleagues were also on hand for Saturday's event, including Kathie Lee Gifford, Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry.
The representative said the celebrity couple, who will honeymoon in Mexico, took an unique approach to their wedding festivities.
"Instead of a gift, they asked guests to give them their two favorite songs -- one dance, one love -- and they were played throughout the night," the representative told People magazine. "And instead of wedding cake, they're having a birthday cake."
Midwife says Bundchen brave during birth
BOSTON, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Supermodel Gisele Bundchen remained brave and focused on her breathing while giving birth at her Boston home last year, a midwife says.
Midwife Deborah Allen, who assisted with the Dec. 8 birth of Bundchen's son Benjamin, said a "presence of love" helped the Brazilian model deal with the work of giving birth to her son, The Boston Herald reported exclusively Sunday.
"She report(ed) no pain in childbirth. However, it was work. I would say that Gisele was so aware of the presence of love that she had no fear," Allen told the Herald.
Bundchen, 29, and her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, decided on a natural water birth for their son. Allen would not confirm who was in attendance at the couple's home for the 2009 birth.
Allen, who has helped perform nearly 200 water births, applauded Bundchen for her approach to the birthing process.
"Gisele gave birth the way she lives her life," she told the Herald, "well-informed, trusting, ready for adventure and having prepared her body and mind for many years."
The Judds to reunite for tour
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. country music singer Wynonna Judd says she is set to reunite with her mother, Naomi, for a new tour by The Judds.
"The Early Show" reported in a release that Judd, 45, confirmed Saturday her upcoming tour with her 64-year-old mother will also represent the final tour by the famed country music duo.
Specific details of the new tour were not released.
During their career together, Judd and her mother released albums such as "Why Not Me," "Heartland" and "River of Time" before hepatitis C forced Naomi to retire in 1991.
Judd went on to enjoy a successful solo career in the music industry and to date has amassed several gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications from the Recording Institute of America.
Wynonna Judd also released an autobiography titled "Coming Home to Myself" in 2005.
