TORONTO, June 22 (UPI) -- A U.S. man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting gossip blogger Perez Hilton outside a Toronto club following the MuchMusic Video Awards, police said.

Police Constable Tony Vella told the National Post Molina Liborio, 36, was arrested and charged with one count of assault Monday morning. He has since been released and is due in court Aug. 5.

EW.com identified Liborio as the manager of the hip-hop group, the Black Eyed Peas.

"I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke," the Post quoted Hilton as saying on his Twitter page.

Will.I.Am reportedly fired back on Twitter, insisting, "Perez Hilton is a liar."

He also posted a video on dipdive.com, claiming Hilton was attacked by a few Peas enthusiasts.

"Instead of calling the police, you Twittered that I assaulted you? Sounds like somebody wants mad attention and is not really concerned about his health," the Post quoted the singer as saying. "I didn't hit you. It's very wrong that you are Tweeting that I did that -- once again disrespecting me and everything that I stand for -- and they're lies. Shame on you, shame on your behavior, and that's just messed up."

The Post said Hilton responded in a video of his own, calling Will.I.Am a liar.

No further charges are expected in the matter, police said.
