LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- The literary character Jack Ryan will soon be back on U.S. movie screens as screenwriter Hossein Amini has been hired for a new Ryan film, industry sources say.
The Hollywood Reporter said Friday that Amini previously has adapted literary works from authors Henry James, Thomas Hardy and Elmore Leonard for the big screen.
Now Amini will attempt to breathe life into the Ryan character created by author Tom Clancy, who featured the character in a number of his books.
To date, Hollywood has produced four Ryan films, including "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger" and, most recently, 2002's "The Sum of all Fears."
The four movies earned $199 million, $178 million, $208 million and $177 million worldwide, respectively.
The famous film and literary character has been played by Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin.
No word on what actor will don the mantle of Ryan, a former U.S. Marine turned CIA consultant in Clancy's works
The Reporter said the new Paramount Pictures project will be produced by Mace Neufeld and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura.
