Jason quitting 'Frost' after 16 years

LONDON, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- British actor David Jason says he is giving up his occasional role as Detective Inspector Jack Frost on TV's "A Touch of Frost" after 16 years.

"It's time to move on," the BBC quoted the 68-year-old actor as telling reporters in London. "You wouldn't want me to play Frost in a wheelchair, would you? It's a sad day for us all. One doesn't want to go on and on -- you don't want to outlive your welcome."

Jason, who also is well-known for his portrayal of Del Trotter in the British situation comedy "Only Fools and Horses," has appeared in more than 40 episodes of "Frost" since 1992.

Three new installments are to air this fall followed by a two-part series finale to be shown next year, the BBC said.
