'Pal Joey' to be revived on Broadway

NEW YORK, March 7 (UPI) -- New York's Roundabout Theatre Company announced it is planning the first new Broadway revival of the musical "Pal Joey" in more than 30 years.

Previews are set to begin Nov. 21 at Studio 54 in Manhattan, with an opening night scheduled for Dec. 11.

Casting for the 1930s-set show will be announced shortly, Roundabout said.

The new production will feature music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz Hart and a new book by Tony Award winner Richard Greenberg, based on the original book by John O'Hara.

"'Pal Joey' is the story of Joey Evans, a brash, scheming song and dance man with dreams of owning his own nightclub. Joey abandons his wholesome girlfriend Linda English, to charm a rich, married older woman, Vera Simpson, in the hope that she'll set him up in business," said press notes for the show.
