'Chicken' ready to peck apart 'Star Wars'

LOS ANGELES, June 13 (UPI) -- The creative minds behind the U.S. TV series "Robot Chicken" are set to offer "Star Wars" up to the satirical gods after receiving the necessary blessing.

Encouraged by the approval of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, "Robot Chicken" will soon lampoon the famed sci-fi film series with a special 30-minute TV episode on the Cartoon Network, USA Today said Wednesday.

"We had done a couple of 'Star Wars' sketches and got the attention of George Lucas and were invited to a meeting," "Robot Chicken" co-creator Seth Green said. "The people at Lucasfilm realized you could do a comedic take on 'Star Wars' without compromising the integrity of any dramatic take."

"Robot Chicken" typically uses actual toys to create humorous stop-action moments involving some of the most beloved U.S. genres.

The special will air Sunday on the Cartoon Network and will be aired repeatedly in an attempt to give fans of "Robot Chicken" or "Star Wars" a chance to catch the honorary satire, USA Today said.
