Lily Allen, Muse pace Brit Awards

LONDON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Singer Lily Allen, capturing four nominations, leads the field of nominees for the 2007 Brit Awards, followed by rock band Muse, with three.

Allen was nominated for best British female solo artist and best British album, as well as breakthrough artist, the BBC said. She also is a contender for British single of the year with "Smile," which will be decided by a public vote during the awards.

Allen faces Corrine Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse, Jamelia and Nerina Pallot for best British female solo artist.

Joining Allen and Rae in competition for best single are James Morrison and the group Snow Patrol.

Morrison also was nominated for best British male solo artist, along with Jarvis Cocker, Lemar, Paolo Nutini and Thom Yorke.

Muse grabbed nominations for best British group, album and live act. Muse is up against the Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Razorlight and Snow Patrol for best British group.

U.S. act Gnarls Barkley earned three nominations for best international group, album and breakthrough act.

The Brit Awards ceremony will be Feb. 14 in London.
