Culture minister loses bidding war on flat

LONDON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Britain's Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell, accustomed to mixing with celebrities, mixed it up with Hollywood star Bill Murray over a luxury apartment.

Jowell apparently lost in a bidding war with Murray, an Academy Award nominee for "Lost in Translation," for a two-bedroom luxury apartment in an exclusive North London area, the Mail on Sunday said.

Jowell's initial bid for the apartment apparently was below the asking price, forcing her to increase her offer. The site manager for the property company selling the apartments said Jowell was then outbid by Murray.

Murray was expected to exchange contracts within a few days, the manager told the newspaper.

Jowell's search for a new home follows the break-up of her marriage to lawyer David Mills. The couple separated in March after Mills was accused of being involved in an Italian corruption scandal.
