LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A book in which former football star O.J. Simpson describes a hypothetical murder of his ex-wife and a friend is being scorned by publishers.
"If I Did It" goes on sale in two weeks, and is published by ReganBooks, an imprint of HarperCollins, but numerous people in the publishing industry told CBS News it should never have seen the light of day.
"This is not about being heard. This is about trying to cash in, in a pathetic way, on some notoriety," said Sara Nelson, editor in chief of Publishers Weekly. "That a person keeps wanting to bring this up seems almost nutty to me."
Simpson is to be interviewed about the book and his 1995 acquittal in the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman on the Fox network on Nov. 27 and 29.
At least one other network -- NBC -- said it had been approached to air the interview, but declined
"This is not a project appropriate for our network," said Rebecca Marks, a spokeswoman for the entertainment division of NBC.
