Firm opposing Madonna's adoption quits

LILONGWE, Malawi, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- The legal firm in Malawi that had been challenging U.S. pop star Madonna's adoption of 13-month-old David Banda has withdrawn from the case.

The Malawi Daily News reported that Titus Mvalo told journalists at the High Court of Malawi in Lilongwe Monday that he and his company have withdrawn from the case because they did not want to be misunderstood.

High Court judge Andrew Nyirenda adjourned the case till next week and is considering an application by the Human Right Consultative Committee to join as "friends of the court," the Daily News said.

Under the current order, Madonna must return David to Malawi if she is seen treating him differently than her other two children, the Daily News reported.

Madonna said she adopted baby David so he would not have to endure a life of extreme poverty.
