Kline replaces Walken in 'Mother Courage'

NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) -- Kevin Kline will replace Christopher Walken, playing opposite Meryl Streep in New York City's Central Park production of "Mother Courage and Her Children."

Walken was allegedly unhappy with rehearsals of the Bertolt Brecht play, although the official reason for his departure was scheduling conflicts, Daily Variety reported.

"Mother Courage" is being presented at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, Aug. 8 through Sept. 3.

All three actors appeared together in "The Seagull," a Public Theater Central Park production in 2001, directed by Mike Nichols.

Streep and Kline both starred in the 1982 film, "Sophie's Choice," for which Streep won an Oscar for best actress. Kline will be the lead in "King Lear" directed by James Lapine, also at Central Park's Public Theater.
