Anne Hathaway no slave to fashion

LOS ANGELES, June 28 (UPI) -- Anne Hathaway, who stars in "The Devil Wears Prada," said at the film's Los Angeles premiere that she cares more about craft than couture.

Hathaway wore a strapless Prada gown at the film's debut, which kicked off the Los Angeles Film Festival last week. Hathaway said she felt like an imposter.

"I feel like the biggest poseur in the world," she said.

In the film, Hathaway's character, Andy, becomes assistant to Runway magazine's editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Andy is told right away that her blue sweater is several years out of style.

"Style, for me, is something I still can't get right," Hathaway said.

Miranda is a devilish supervisor, demanding Starbucks, plane reservations and phone connections in quick, impatient succession.

Like Andy, who hopes someday to become a real journalist, Hathaway learned to appreciate the more serious aspects of the fashion business and its powerful influence.

"The Devil Wears Prada" opens Friday.
