Banks says media created model feud

NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Talk show host Tyra Banks says one of the reasons she quit modeling was to escape the shadow of supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Banks said Campbell was her role model as a teen, but when she entered the fashion arena, the media created a feud between the two African-Americans, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

The women come face to face Friday on "The Tyra Banks Show," a syndicated talk show, to clear the air about their alleged 14-year feud.

"The press had cast Naomi and I as rivals before we ever met each other," Banks said.

Banks said she invited her rival to appear on her show as an example to other women.

"One of the reasons I wanted to do this show is because sisterhood is so important to me," she told the Daily News. "I feel like women hate on each other -- we're jealous -- and it has to stop."
