Lil' Kim ready for prison term

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Getting ready to serve 365 days in prison for perjury, rapper Lil' Kim notes Martha Stewart emerged from her jail stint "looking better than when she went in."

Lil' Kim, 30, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, reports to prison Monday for lying to a grand jury about a 2001 shootout between her posse and a group representing her rival, Foxy Brown, outside a New York radio station.

"I definitely don't feel that I deserved what I got," she told the New York Daily News of the sentence imposed July 6 by a judge who said he found her testimony that she did not know who the shooters were to be "shockingly untrue" and "an insult to the system."

The rapper said she can relate to the plight of Stewart, who served six months in prison for lying to a grand jury about a stock sale.

"Her courage and strength is definitely encouraging," she says.

Rather than worry about inmates, depression or even boredom in the slammer, the rapper told the newspaper her biggest frustration is "I won't be able to promote my album."

Her album, "The Naked Truth," comes out Sept. 27.
