LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Salma Hayek will star in Oprah Winfrey's four-hour TV movie based on Toni Morrison's novel "Paradise."

Darnell Martin is adapting the novel and directing the project for ABC-TV, Variety reports.

"Paradise" revolves around the slayings of several women by a group of black men in the town of Ruby, Okla.

The role marks a return to television for Hayek, whose career started on the Mexican soap opera "Nuevo Amanecer," Variety said.

She will next been seen in three films, "Ask the Dust" with Colin Farrell; "Bandidas" with Penelope Cruz; and with John Travolta and James Gandolfini in the independent film "Lonely Hearts."
