Chesney tops out at ACM music awards

LAS VEGAS, May 18 (UPI) -- Country singer Kenny Chesney has been named Entertainer of the Year at the 40th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Having previously won Top New Vocalist and Top Male Vocalist, Chesney completed the Academy of Country Music's Triple Crown with the Entertainer of the Year win, E! Online reported Wednesday. Only six other acts have achieved the feat -- Brooks & Dunn, Dixie Chicks, Mickey Gilley, Merle Haggard and Barbara Mandrell.

Chesney, who also won Entertainer of the Year honors in November at the Country Music Association, said his wife of one week, Renee Zellweger, was working on a movie and unable to attend the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Tim McGraw, nominated for a leading six awards, won Top Single and Top Song honors Tuesday for "Live Like You Were Dying," for which he has also received a Grammy.
