Spike Lee takes on UNICEF project

LOS ANGELES, May 2 (UPI) -- Spike Lee and six other directors will make a series of films for the United Nations International Children's Educational Fund.

"All the Invisible Children" is envisioned as a collection of short films, produced by MK Film Productions and Italy's RAI Fiction, directed by a roster of filmmakers that also includes John Woo ("Mission: Impossible 2"), Ridley Scott ("Kingdom of Heaven") and Stefano Veneruso, who was an assistant director of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," Daily Variety reported.

Lee plans to shoot his project Thursday through Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y., from a script by his sister Joie Lee and his brother Cinqué Lee. It's described as the story of a girl who is born HIV-positive and whose drug addict parents keep her in the dark about that -- and what happens when her classmates find out.

"I think it's a great project and I'm happy to be a part of it," Lee said. "This is my first involvement with UNICEF and I want to do more."
