Noted actor stuns French TV audience

PARIS, April 15 (UPI) -- Famous French actor Gerard Depardieu stunned a national TV audience with an apparently drunken tirade against critics.

Appearing on the "Ca balance a Paris" show to promote his new cook book, Depardieu lashed out at book critic and fellow guest Martin Monestier in an outburst made all the more awkward by Depardieu's obviously slurred speech, the Independent reported Friday.

He then appeared to notice, as if for the first time, the presence of fellow guest Mazarine Pingeot, daughter of former French president Francois Mitterrand.

"Hello beautiful! I didn't see you there!" he blurted loudly before extravagantly kissing her on the cheek.

Producers scrambled to bring the next guest, a famous pastry chef, on the set ahead of schedule so Depardieu could sample some of his creations -- and stop talking.
