'Idol's' Ruben Studdard getting makeover

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- "American Idol" alumnus Ruben Studdard, at 360 pounds, has reportedly agreed to a makeover, complete with a diet and fitness overhaul.

The U.S. syndicated TV show "Extra" says it has assembled an Extreme Fitness Team with "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson as life coach and trainer Gunnar Peterson to work out with Studdard.

"I think right now, for me, I need to get as healthy as possible. A little healthier lifestyle, try to work out a little more so my performances can be better," Studdard said.

The "Extra" team moved Studdard from his native Birmingham, Ala., to Los Angeles to be near Jackson and Peterson.

Jackson, who lost 100 pounds, will help the singer with fitness training, diet and motivation.

Peterson, who has trained everyone from Sylvester Stallone to Jennifer Lopez, will work out with Studdard three times a week.

Studdard, who turned 26 Sunday, will release a gospel album in November.
