LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- Ken Jennings Friday chalked up his 18th straight "Jeopardy" victory, bringing his winning total to $601,760.
Jennings won $48,801, correctly asking "What is leprosy?" in response to the answer: "In 1901 U.S. Surgeon General Walter Wyman helped establish a hospital in Hawaii for this disease." He wagered $20,601 to guarantee his win over Michael Cudahy, who wound up the day with $44,400. The third player, Chris Edwards, won only $4,600.
All three players came up with the correct question in the final round.
Earlier in the show, host Alex Trebek chided Jennings for his conservative betting habits after he risked only $1,100 of his $6,400 on one of the game's Daily Doubles.
"What happened to the $3,600 I would have expected?" Trebek asked.
"I guess I should have drank more in college," Jennings shot back.
On Thursday's show, Trebek asked Jennings if he was going to "nickel and dime us to death."
