Olsen Twins want name change

NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Millionaire teens and college students Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen want the media to quit calling them "The Olsen Twins."

"At this point, they're 17-year-old girls working on a big-budget movie who don't think it's too much to ask for people to use their individual names," their publicist, Michael Pagnotta, told the New York Post Thursday.

"They've never been known professionally as 'The Olsen Twins' -- the name of their brand is 'Mary-Kate and Ashley' and 'The Olsen Twins' was just media shorthand," he explained. "I don't know why their wanting to be known as Mary-Kate and Ashley surprises people so much. We've been talking about this for 10 years now."

The teens' marketing empire now includes TV shows, videos, DVDs and movies, as well as clothing and beauty product lines, The Post noted.

The New York University freshmen can next be seen in the big-screen adventure, "New York Minute," which opens May 7.
