George Michael considering Wham! musical

LONDON, March 25 (UPI) -- British singer George Michael is considering offers to produce a stage musical about his 1980s pop group Wham!, the BBC reported Thursday.

"Two or three producers have approached Andrew Ridgeley and I," Michael told London radio station Heart 106.2FM.

Michael, 40, who promoting his new album "Patience," said on a creative level he "hates the idea" of turning his youth into a stage show.

"On another level, I know a certain generation of people would love the idea. But I would literally have to avoid the premiere," added the singer.

"The truth is that done on stage, there'll be no charm and you'll be left with a lot of cheese," he said. "I think Andrew was of the opinion that if the story was good enough, then it would be snotty not to do it. He would love the fact that it would make a fortune as well."

The music of several other pop acts, such as ABBA, Elton John, Queen and Rod Stewart, have already yielded wildly successful musicals in London's West End.
