NEW YORK, March 15 (UPI) -- Guns N' Roses Monday announced it was suing Geffen Records in Los Angeles to stop the unauthorized release of a greatest hits compilation.
The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court seeks a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the album's release, the band said in a news release.
Guns N' Roses was not given the opportunity to approve the songs, the artwork, the release date or the re-mastering of tracks included on the album, the lawsuit said.
Guns N' Roses has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide, half of that number in the United States alone, the release said.
Founding member Axl Rose said he was concerned fans may be misled into believing the compilation is an authorized release and that it could also hinder the release of his new studio album "Chinese Democracy," the release said.
Rose is joined in the lawsuit by former bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan.
