Report: Diana's ex was suicidal

LONDON, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- James Hewitt, Princess Diana's former lover, has told psychic Uri Geller he was suicidal after his relationship with her was made public.

Hewitt admitted to Geller on a television show called "Back To Reality" that he had made some "mistakes," regarding the late Princess of Wales, the British Web site ITV.com reported Monday.

Asked to elaborate on that admission, James replied, "I am not going into the details, but I admit I made mistakes, although all for the right reasons.

"It was then I was prepared to go away, drive to France and commit suicide," he confessed.

This is not the first time Hewitt has spoken of his suicidal tendencies, which might explain why Geller, friend to American pop singer Michael Jackson, seemed more alarmed by Hewitt's choice of destination than the fact he planned to end his life.

"No way," Geller declared. "Oh, my God! Why France?"

Geller then composed himself enough to add: "I am astounded to hear this. You have such strength."

Hewitt went on to say he had been suffering from "shock and depression," but insisted, "I hope I am now over those times."
