NEW YORK, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Isabella Rossellini will make her New York stage debut in a new Terrence McNally play, "The Stendhal Syndrome," scheduled to open off-Broadway Feb. 1.
The daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini will play an American tourist in Florence, Italy, in one of the two plays that make up "The Stendhal Syndrome," McNally's first stage work since his 1988 play "Corpus Christi." The new play will inaugurate Primary Stages' Theater, theater 59E59, the first to open in the Bloomingdale's Department Store neighborhood.
Rossellini has had a successful career in films since her 1979 debut in "Il Prato (The Meadow)" and won a 1998 Berlin Film Festival award for her performance in "Left Luggage." She also has acted extensively in television, appearing most recently as Empress Josephine in the A&E cable network film production, "Napoleon" and is well known as a commercial advertising model.
