'Mystic River' leads Critics' Choice nods

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" leads with eight nominations for the 9th Annual Critics' Choice Awards, which were announced Tuesday.

The Warner Bros. Pictures film received nominations for best picture, best director and composer for Eastwood, best actor for Sean Penn, best supporting actor for Tim Robbins, best supporting actress for Marcia Gay Harden, best acting ensemble and best writer for Brian Helgeland, who adapted Dennis Lehane's novel on which the film is based.

Other films with multiple nominations include: "In America" with seven; "Big Fish" and "Lost in Translation" with five each; "Cold Mountain" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" with four each; and "The Last Samurai" and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" with three nominations each.

The awards will be handed out by the Broadcast Films Critics Association on Jan. 10.
