Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy awarded $134.5 million this week in two construction contracts for Marine Corps Camp Blaz in the U.S. island territory Guam. One of the two contracts awarded was a $36.5 million contract to Caddell-Nan Joint Venture of Montgomery, Ala., to build a base warehouse in Finegayan, Guam, slated to be completed by Nov. 2023, according to a statement from Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific.

"This project provides general support warehouse required for storage and administrative space to support the distribution management office, base supply, food services and general services administrative daily operations," Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific design manager Grant Nakata said in the statement.
The other was a $98 million contract to build bachelor office headquarters for the Black Construction-Tutor Perini Joint Venture of Harmon, Guam, slated to be completed by May 2024, a separate statement from Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific said.
The Marine Corps activated Camp Blaz in October to absorb about 5,000 Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force who will relocating over the next few years from Okinawa, Japan.
It is the first new Marine Corps base the branch has activated since 1952, when it activated Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany in Georgia, according to the Marines.
Since the base was first commissioned, the Navy has awarded $936.5 million in construction contracts for Camp Blaz, Stars and Stripes reported.
Congress set a maximum $8.7 billion budget for the new base with the government of Japan funding up to $3.1 billion of that amount and the United States funding the rest.
