National Guard Bureau to get WMD training

Battelle is to help train National Guard personnel in responding to domestic chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives incidents.

July 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. National Guard Bureau is to receive mission training and support services from Battelle for combating weapons of mass destruction, the company announced on Wednesday.

The support, provided under a 35-month Defense Technical Information Center, Homeland Defense & Security Technical Area Task award, will include provision of technical subject matter expertise to study, analyze, advise, research, and develop deliverables to advance the NGB weapons of mass destruction mission.

Included will be chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives, or CBRNE, and WMD elimination exercises and after-action reports, developing and conducting training courses, and assessing training effectiveness.

Battelle will also provide technical and analytical assessments to the National Guard Bureau's WMD Division to enhance survivability, safety, and sustainment operations during an intentional and unintentional release of CBRNE materials during natural or man-made disasters within the United States and U.S. territories

Company support, under a 35-month award, will include provision of technical subject matter expertise to the National Guard Bureau's Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction Division to study, analyze, advise, research, and develop deliverables to advance the NGB WMD mission.

Battelle said its services will include CBRNE and WMD elimination exercises and after-action reports; developing and conducting training courses; and providing technical and analytical assessments to enhance survivability, safety, and sustainment operations during an intentional and unintentional release of CBRNE materials during natural or man-made disasters within the United States and US territories.

"This important contract award again demonstrates that Battelle wins competitively bid contracts in our area of expertise -- CBRNE defense and R&D operations," Matthew J. Shaw, vice president and general manager for Battelle's CBRNE Defense business unit, said in a press release. "We look forward to continuing to support our government clients as they tackle these strategically important tasks to protect the homeland while keeping our warfighters and first responders safe."

Battelle, which provides services for government and commercial customers, said the contract is worth about $13.8 million.
