July 13 (UPI) -- Saab Australia will supply electronic security systems for a new prison that is being built in New South Wales.

Early work on the systems for what will be Australia's largest correctional facility began earlier this month, Saaab said in a release Thursday, and will be completed in three years, subject to planning approval.

The prison, being built by the by Australia's Northern Pathways consortium, is located in Grafton, a city in the northeast portion of the state. It will include maximum-security beds for up to 1,000 male and 300 female inmates, as well as minimum-security beds for 400 men.

Saab said its contracts provide for installation and maintenance of the systems, which are components of a broader facility design.

"This is a very significant, new project for Saab in Australia," Saab Australia Managing Director Dean Rosenfield said. "As well as being Australia's biggest prison, the Grafton facility will utilize Saab's OneViewTMsystem. It's quite an honour to be selected to be involved in such an important project and it is recognition of the high performance of our systems in other prisons in Australia and New Zealand."
