June 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted with L3 Technologies to supply M783 Point Detonating/Delay Mortar Fuzes and the M734A1 Multi-Option Fuze for Mortars.

The initial firm-fixed-price contract is worth $89.2 million. It is a multi-year contract with four option years, the company announced Thursday. If the options are fully exercised, the contract has a potential value of more than $230 million, L3 said.

"The advanced capabilities of these mortar fuzes deliver unsurpassed safety, performance and reliability to the warfighter. We are proud to have delivered these fuzes to the Army for the past 20 years."

L3 said the fuzes will be made in Cincinnati, Ohio, by L3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems.
