NSA gives Type1 certification to Harris radio

Harris' AN/PRC-117G radio has been certified by the National Security Agency for secure voice and data communications using MUOS satellites.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. National Security Agency has given Type-1 certification for Harris Corporation radios to use the MUOS satellite waveform.

MUOS is a next-generation U.S. Department of Defense military communications system for delivering mobile satellite connectivity through tactical radios.

"This NSA certification for the MUOS-enabled AN/PRC-117G allows us to continue providing value and leading-edge communications technology to the warfighter on the battlefield," said Chris Young, president, Harris Communication Systems.

The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G is a manpack communications unit that operates in the 30 MHz to 2 GHz frequency range. Harris said it is 30 percent smaller and 35 percent lighter than currently fielded multiband manpack radios. Harris has already Harris has delivered more than 30,000 of them -- together with a software upgrade, a diplexer and antenna kits to military forces for secure voice and data communications.
