Philippines orders Harris tactical radios

Vehicular and handheld tactical radios have been ordered from Harris Corporation by the Philippine Army.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Harris Corporation is supplying tactical vehicular radios and handheld radios to the Armed Forces of the Philippines under a $12 million contract.

In addition to the Falcon III radios, intercom systems will also be provided to the Philippines as part of its communications modernization program.

"These radios will provide soldiers in the Philippine Army with advanced command and control, and real-time situational awareness capabilities," said Brendan O'Connell, president of Harris' Tactical Communications unit. "They also will have secure interoperability with more than 15,000 Harris Falcon radios currently fielded within the AFP."

The radios for the Philippine Army's Light Armored Division will be the Falcon RF-7800V Combat Net Radio, integrated into the RF-7800I Intercom System for in-vehicle voice and data communications through secure tactical network connectivity, Harris said.

Falcon RF-7800V handheld VHF Combat Net Radios to be delivered will be for general use by the Army.

The number of radios and their delivery schedule were not disclosed.
