WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Norway has asked the United States for technical, engineering and software support for C-130J airlifters operated by the country's military forces.
The support would be provided through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales Program and carries an estimated value of $107 million.
The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in its required notification to Congress, said principal contractors on the deal would be Lockheed, Rolls-Royce and GE Aviation Systems, doing business as Dowty Propellers.
The agency said the proposed sale "will increase Norway's ability to contribute to future NATO, operations and supports U.S. national security interests."
"This support will continue to strengthen a critical, long-term strategic military partnership," it said.
Norway is specifically asking for C-130J technical, engineering and software support; software updates and patches; familiarization training for the Portable Flight Planning System and Joint Mission Planning System; spare and repair parts, and other related elements logistics support.
