Comtech continues work for undisclosed African country

MELVILLE, N.Y., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A U.S. prime contractor has tapped Comtech Systems Inc. to design and supply the next phase of a telecommunications system for use in an unidentified African government's communications network.

The contract with the company, a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., is worth $51.1 million.

The company also received a $3.4 million incremental funding order for the first phase of the same project.

"We are pleased to receive this contract for the next phase of this important program," said Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications. "We look forward to working with this prime contractor and the foreign end-customer on this and future opportunities."

The system being provided over a four-year period will consist of fixed and transportable transmission systems. Additional details, however, were not provided.

Comtech Systems, based in Florida, specializes in system design, integration, supply and commissioning of turnkey communication systems.
