LONDON, May 31 (UPI) -- A BAE Systems and Polish Defense Holding have teamed to win a Polish military contract for new armored vehicles.
The vehicles would be procured as part of Poland's Modular Tracked Platform program, a high-priority project with a tight timeline. A contract is expected to be awarded in 2015 and the first vehicles in operation by 2018.
"Polish Defense Holding has extensive experience as an in-country prime contractor and will be critical in developing solutions for this new family of armored fighting vehicles that will meet the military's requirements in Poland," said Erwin Bieber, president of BAE Systems' Land and Armaments sector.
BAE Systems said its Swedish subsidiary, BAE Systems Hagglunds, which builds vehicles, and Polish Defense Holdings would draw on technology and design of the company's CV90 armored infantry fighting vehicle for the Polish contract.
The CV90 is built by BAE for the armed forces of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
