ROANOKE, Va., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Generation 3 aviation night vision systems are to be supplied to the U.S. Army by ITT Exelis through a five-year contract.
The contract, under which ITT Exelis will bid for task orders, is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity vehicle with a value of as much as $217.5 million.
The system to be supplied is the AN/AVS-6 aviator night vision goggle, together with spare aviation image intensifiers.
"Generation 3 image intensification technology provides aviators the world's most advanced night vision capability," said Nick Bobay, vice president and general manager of the Exelis Night Vision business area.

As well as providing optimum vision in darkness, the AN/AVS-6 enhances vision in high-light areas through the use of an auto-gated Gen 3 Pinnacle image intensifier.
