DENVER, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has received an airborne signals intelligence system that allows C-130Js to be used for tactical signals intelligence and reconnaissance.
Lockheed Martin said the system is part of the Senior Scout program, an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance system featuring a trailer-like container that can be rolled on and off a C-130.
"We are honored to continue providing the Air Force with a modern, capable signals intelligence system," said Jim Quinn, vice president of C4ISR Systems for Lockheed Martin IS&GS-Defense. "The latest shelter configuration advances the Senior Scout capability for the next generation of C-130J aircraft."
Lockheed said the latest Senior Scout shelter was enhanced to for use with the new C-130J and that system interfaces were updated.
Palletized shelters for aircraft are part Lockheed's Dragon family of ISR configurations, which feature a modular "plug and play" architecture for rapid introduction of new capabilities.
Acceptance testing of the palletized shelter is being conducted this month.
