YORK, Pa., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted BAE Systems for the delivery of its Special Operations Command variant blast protection vehicles.
BAE say its Pennsylvania and South Carolina facilities, with support from the Letterkenny Army Depot and Spartan Motors Chassis, will provide the Marines with SOCOM mine resistant ambush protected vehicles.
The $90.6 million contract, awarded by the Marine Corps Systems Command, will include 58 of the BAE MRAPs based on the company's RG33 family of vehicles.
"These vehicles have been in service with our forces in Iraq providing survivability against improvised explosive devices, medium machine gun or small arms fire and mine blast protection," Mark Signorelli, BAE Systems New Vehicles and Amphibious Systems vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
